European-style hunting knife with steel blade, marked 'ARNACHELLUM SALEM'; with buckhorn handle and butt engraved with tiger; with wooden scabbard covered in Russian leather with silver mounts and chape; engraved with the crest and motto of the Prince of Wales, tigers and floral decoration.
With the growing presence of British people in India during the nineteenth century, Indian bladesmiths such as Arnachellum Company produced copies of European hunting knives for British patrons. Arnachellum was a celebrated 19th century Indian bladesmith. His works were prised for their toughness and resistance to corrosion.Provenance
