A parrying dagger or madu and shield made of steel and decorated with kuftkari (overlaid word) in gold with geometric foliage patterns and applied with four bosses and a crescent. The parrying dagger made up of a pair of antelope horns tipped with spikes of gold damascened steel. This type of weapon is usually associated with the Bhil peoples in central India.
Provenance
Presented to King Edward VII, when Prince of Wales, during his tour of India in 1875-76 by Bhavani Singh, Maharaja of Datia.
