This polychrome wax half-length portrait of George III was made by Samuel Percy, one of the most successful and prolific wax modellers of the late 18th century and early 19th century. George III is shown facing the viewer and wearing the Windsor Uniform with the star of the Order of the Garter, with a looped green curtain above and drapery below. Wax portraits became popular during the 18th century and they were fashionable adornments in private cabinets. The wax portrait is set against a black painted background and has a deep circular ebonised moulded wood frame.
