Sèvres soft paste porcelain pair of flower vases. Bleu nouveau ground with rich gilding, bombé shape with fluted rounded and tapering corners. Four painted reserves with birds within floral garlands; in addition the front reserve with green trellis.
Provenance
One vase was probably one of a pair of vases bought at auction at Harry Phillips in February 1802: ‘a pair of the Seve Porcelain flower Couvettes Enamelled in Birds and flowers and mazarine blue ground richly gilt £30’. The other vase was probably one of a pair bought by George IV on or shortly after 24 March 1802 at the Phillips auction (Sale No.296): ‘A Pair of Old Royal Seve Flower Couvettes painted in birds and flowers £33 12s’.
