A bronze figure of a stallion rearing on hind legs, head slightly to left, flowing mane and waving tail, slightly veined body; on rectangular slate base. The bronze has a brown patina.
This bronze has been identified as perhaps one of those sent to Henry, Prince of Wales by the Grand Duke of Tuscany in 1611, which were cast by Pietro Tacca (1577-1640) from works by Giambologna.
Provenance
Recorded at Kensington Palace in 1818. Perhaps formerly in the collection of Prince Henry of Wales and King Charles I, sold during the Commonwealth.
