Bronze group (with plaster sections) of the bearded Romulus, recumbent, his hair dressed with leaves, with his right hand raised holding part of a rod, and with a fiercely baying wolf held between his legs, clawing the rod in his left hand. Set on an ebonised wood plinth.
Provenance
Acquired for George IV, when Prince Regent, from the sale of John Bridge's collection at Phillips Auction House in May 1816. Lot 229 (according to Jutsham receipts). It was sent to Carlton House where it was placed in the Attic Bedroom. Sent to Windsor Castle on 28th November 1828. Recorded in the Corridor at Windsor Castle by 1918.
