A bronze bust of Cardinal Richelieu, wearing robes with a sash and Order of the Saint Spirit; on a square portor marble plinth with a projecting cornice and base.
The bust is thought to have been cast by Hubert Le Sueur, after Jean Warin circa 1643, following his return to France. In total five casts of this bust are thought to have been made, two of them by Henry Perlan for Richelieu's niece, the duchesse d'Aiguillon.Provenance
Purchased by Benois in Paris in 1827, for £65, for George IV. It was sent to Windsor Castle on 20th November 1828.
