Cuckoo clock 1949
-
Cuckoo clock of oak in form of Tudor style building in two different stained woods with a gable roof with finial and wavy lines along gables. Chapter ring of gilt bronze with numbers cut into it. The 30 hour locking plate cuckoo striking mechanism has a circular pendulum and two cylindrical metal weights and an anchor recoil escapement.
Provenance
Marked '01' indicating the first of a special edition, presented by the makers to Prince Charles. Production of these clocks started in 1949 but due to the entirely hand-built production the costs were high and only about twenty were made of this type; about fifty cuckoo clocks were produced by the makers overall. Production ceased in 1951.
