Mahogany table clock with a break arch top and carrying handle, gilt fretted sides, a moulded base and gilt bracket feet. The eight day rack striking clock has a fusee movement and ½ dead beat escapement. Three dials all of enamel: main dial, with four gilt spandrels, has the 12 hours represented by Roman numerals and 5 minute intervals in Arabic numerals; two subsidiary dials, to the left, strike/silent and a rise and fall regulator to the right. All with blued steel hands, pointers on the subsidiary dials, pierced on the main dial.
Vulliamy number 977. Recorded in the Clock Book as a 'Spring clock in the Old pattern Mahogany Case with raised panels and brass mouldings and enamel dial'. Delivered to the King ... In the Stud House Hampton Court ... Bill dated Nov 6 1834'. Richard Symes is recorded as a clock dial enameller between c. 1816 and 1835.Provenance
Included in the Pictorial Inventory of 1827-33 – RCIN 934900. The inventory was originally created as a record of the clocks, vases, candelabra and other miscellaneous items from Carlton House, as well as selected items from the stores at Buckingham House, the Royal Pavilion, Brighton, Hampton Court and Kensington Palace for consideration in the refurbishment of Windsor Castle.
