HRH Princess Elizabeth of York aged five weeks, May 1926 May 1926
Gelatin silver print | 21 x 24.5 cm (image) | RCIN 2999931
-
Photograph of HRH Princess Elizabeth of York aged five weeks, lying in her cot. Mounted on card.
In May 1926, Richard N Speaight (1875 -1938), a society photographer, was asked by the Duke of York (later King George VI) to take the first photographs of his newborn daughter, Princess Elizabeth. This commission must have been particularly pleasing, as Speaight had photographed on different occasions both the Duke and the Duchess of York themselves as childrenProvenance
