Photograph showing three-quarter length group portrait with (left-right) The Duchess of York, seated facing the viewer; Princess Margaret, standing facing three-quarter right and Princess Elizabeth seated and facing the viewer. Framed. Four years after Princess Elizabeth’s arrival, Princess Margaret Rose was born on 21 August 1930 at Glamis Castle, the Scottish home of her maternal grandparents, the Earl and Countess of Strathmore. The early years of the Princesses’ lives were spent mostly at No. 145 Piccadilly, their parents’ London home. In 1932, however, when Princess Elizabeth was six and Princess Margaret was two, the family began to use Royal Lodge in the centre of Windsor Great Park as their country residence. There the Princesses could ride and have their own animals.
