Photograph of HM Queen Elizabeth II, head and shoulders length, turned three-quarters to right but facing the viewer. She wears a turqouise shirt and pearl necklace. Signed 'Snowdon' bottom right corner of the print. Antony Armstrong-Jones, created Earl of Snowdon in 1961 (the year after his marriage to Princess Margaret), has worked as a professional photographer and designer since the 1950s. In 1957 he took the official portraits of The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh for use during their tour of Canada, and in the following year he held his first photograph exhibition in London. Numerous further exhibitions, books and television films have followed, and over a hundred of Snowdon’s portrait photographs have been acquired by the National Portrait Gallery. He has worked as photographer for The Sunday Times, Vogue and the Telegraph Magazine. The two children of Lord Snowdon’s marriage to Princess Margaret (which was dissolved in 1978) are Viscount Linley (born 1961) and Lady Sarah Chatto (born 1964). Princess Margaret died in 2002.
