Photograph of a scene from the play 'Mr Pillycoddy' that was performed at Balmoral Castle. From left to right are Princess Alexandra of Edinburgh (seated), Princess Beatrice of Edinburgh who ties a scarf around Princess Alexandra's neck and the Honourable Ethel Cadogan who watches the proceedings with her hands on her hips. The scene is set against a painted backdrop depicting a domestic setting with a longcase clock on the left. In the foreground is an empty hat box.
On the 2nd June 1894, Queen Victoria later recorded in her journal that she watched 'the most droll little play Mr "Pilly Caddy" [sic] in one act, [that] was performed Mr Yorke was simply killing, Major Legge very good & Ethel C. excellent, as the Maid of all work...Little Beatrice was charming in her one little scene, which Mr Yorke prepared for her.' -
