Photograph of a tableau vivant performed at Balmoral Castle featuring the performers (from left to right): Hon. Ethel Cadogan (1853-1930) as Rebecca and Mr Moritz Müther (d. 1912) in the role of a Knight of St John who reaches out to touch his hand with hers. Müther is dressed in chainmail and a white robe bearing the cross of the Crusades.
The tableau 'Ivanhoe' was performed in the Ballroom at Balmoral Castle on the 8th June 1893 and was one of a series of performances that included 'The Sleeping Beauty'; 'Caller Herrin' (fisherwomen); 'The Studio'; 'In Romania' and 'The Snake Charmer'. Following the performance of this tableau on the 8th June 1893, Queen Victoria wrote in her journal that 'Sandra [Princess Alexandra] looked very pretty, all in white, with roses in her hair, as Sleeping Beauty, & Ld William Cecil did very well as the Prince.'
