Photograph of a scene from the play 'A Scrap of Paper' that was performed at Balmoral Castle on two occasions; once on the 24th October 1893 and the second on the 30th October 1893. On the left, Princess Aribert of Anhalt plays Mathilde, dressed in riding clothes and holding a hat and a crop as she listens to Anatole played by Frederick Ponsonby who holds his hat in his hands.

'A Scrap of Paper' was adapted by John Palgrave Simpson (1807-87) and was originally written by the French Playwright, Victorien Sardou. Other performers in the tableau included Princess Beatrice (1857-1944), Queen Victoria's youngest daughter and Princess Aribert of Anhalt. The play centres on Louise, Baroness de la Glaciere and her lover Prosper Couramont. Charles Wilson was the youngest son of George Washington Wilson who was Photographer to the Queen in Scotland. Charles succeeded his father George as photographer at Balmoral in 1887, the year prior to George Washington Wilson's retirement.
