-
Photograph of a scene from the tableaux Vivant Malcolm Canmore that was performed at Balmoral Castle on the 6th October 1888. Pictured is Princess Beatrice who stands wearing exquisite robes and a crown in her role as Queen Margaret, Consort to the Scottish King, Malcolm III or Malcolm Canmore. She stands in front of painted screen depicting a Scottish loch.
This tableaux re-enacted scenes from the life of Malcolm III (1031-93), King of Scotland. Canmore derives from the Gaelic meaning one who is 'Great' or a 'Chieftain'. Queen Margaret (c. 1045-93) is also known as Saint Margaret of Scotland and 'The Pearl of Scotland'. Educated and pious, she was canonized by Pope Innocent IV in 1250 in recognition of her personal endeavour to align church practice in Scotland with that of Rome. -
