Photograph of Drummond Castle in Perthshire, Scotland. The castle which comprises a tower house stands on a promontory in the centre of the background. In the foreground are formal gardens and an ornamental fountain featuring a male figure in the centre.
Drummond castle stands on what is known as Gask Ridge and was built during the 15th century. The formal gardens that surround the castle were laid out during the 17th century. Both the castle and gardens were extensively improved during the 19th century. This photograph is from a portfolio of 42 photographs taken by Wilson to illustrate a book featuring entries from Queen Victoria's journals, written during her visits to Scotland. Leaves from the Journal of Our Life in the Highlands was published to great success in 1868.Provenance
