Photograph of a sketch by Major MacBean of Lucknow Church. Parts of the church have been damaged and there is a graveyard to the right. A mosque can be seen in the distance.
The accompanying text for this image, at the front of the book, records that during the Siege of Lucknow the church acted as one of the outer defences of the Residency and was occupied by the 32nd Regiment. Sir Henry Lawerence, the Chief Commissioner of the province of Awadh and a key figure in the defence, is buried in the graveyard. -
