Mrs Walter Burns 1909
-
Photogravure of Ruth Evelyn Burns (née Cavendish-Bentinck). In this full length portrait, Burns is photographed outside, seated on a bench in a natural environment. A bouquet of chrysanthemums is positioned on the bench beside her. She wears a light coloured long sleeve dress featuring lace detailing. A small posy of roses is attached to the bodice. Her hair is styled in a psyche knot, a hairstyle popular in the period. A Pomeranian dog is nestled against her lap, facing towards the camera.
The accompanying caption describes Burns as "one of London's most popular hostesses."Provenance
From the Bassano Collection.
