Photograph of a full length group portrait of the Royal Family taken in Buckingham Palace with (from left to right): Dookie the dog, Princess Elizabeth (b. 1926) now HM Queen Elizabeth II, King George VI (1895-1952), Queen Elizabeth (1900-2002) and Princess Margaret (1930-2002). All face three-quarters left. In December 1938 Adams was asked to photograph the Royal Family at Buckingham Palace. This photograph posed certain technical problems for him. The large group had to be taken with a very wide aperture; this put the chandeliers in the background out of focus. He therefore took a second photograph of the background alone, from exactly the same position. The background in the first negative was bleached out, then the two negatives were bound together and the image was printed from this double negative.
