Photograph showing Prince Charles standing, body three-quarters left, head turned to front, his arms by his side. He wears short-sleeved shirt and shorts. In November 1953 The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh left for the Commonwealth tour which they had abandoned in Kenya the year before, owing to the death of King George VI. Prince Charles and Princess Anne sat for Adams twice during their parents’ absence, in February and April 1954. The photographs from these sittings were sent out to The Queen and the Duke, just as photographs of Princess Elizabeth had been sent to the Duke and Duchess of York during their tour of Australia and New Zealand in 1927.
