Photograph of HMS Ophir, with a dingy carrying five people in the foreground. There is a full crew on board the ship. HMS Ophir was used by the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York for their tour of the British Empire, March to December 1901.
Alfred West (1857-1937) of the photographic company G.West & Son in Gosport and Southsea, was a well-known marine photographer and pioneer cinematographer. He sailed with HMS Crescent in 1898 and HMS Ophir in 1901, making a number of films, one of which was shown to Queen Victoria at Osborne. -
