Photograph of the Garter Throne Room, laid out for a Council. The room is dominated by a large dining table covered in velvet, headed by the Throne of the King of Kandy (returned to Sri Lanka in 1934) and several chairs and stools covered with Garter emblems. The room is lit by two large glass chandeliers as well as Gothic torcheres or standard lamps. The two paintings to left are by Kneller, of King George I and George II (RCINs 404390 and 404389) - they replaced the large historical painting by Benjamin West of the Investiture of the Knights of the Garter. There is another throne under the canopy at the back of the room.
