Photograph of a corner of the Van Dyck Room, now known as the Queen's Ballroom, facing north. This photograph was taken to show the effect of a new crimson silk hanging or wallpaper, which is in between the large equestrian portrait of Charles I and portraits of Queen Henrietta Maria. Here the Interior Designer was trying out a possible new decorating scheme. There is a variety of seated furniture, some covered with tapestry panels (RCINs 33498, 25293, 2537, 35305 etc) and a boulle desk. The carpet is of an oak trellis with Garter motif design. The original wallpaper was a design of the Royal arms of Great Britain with collar, jewel and motto of the order of the Garter supported by a wreath, rose, shamrock and thistle and surmounted by an Imperial crown.
