Photograph of the Van Dyck Room, now known as the Queen's Ballroom, facing north. One of the most interesting things about this room is that there are samples of a new silk hanging or wallpaper - by the door at the end of the room and also in between the large equestrian portrait of Charles I and portraits of Queen Henrietta Maria. Here the Interior Designers were trying out a possible new decorating scheme.
Generally speaking there are many Van Dyck paintings on the wall, including the Triple Portrait of Charles I over the fireplace and the Four Eldest Children of Charles I above it. There is a variety of seated furniture, some covered with tapestry panels (RCINs 33498, 25293, 2537, 35305 etc). There are pier tables and mirrors placed in between the bay windows. The carpet is of oak/garter design.Provenance
