Photograph of the Waterloo Chamber, looking towards the Grand Staircase (Chantrey's statue of King George IV can be seen beyond the door), the walls lined with portraits by Sir Thomas Lawrence of the victorious allied monarchs, statesmen and commanders of the Battle of Waterloo, which were commissioned by King George IV. The walls are lined with limewood carvings, most of which date from 1680s, carved by Grinling Gibbons and his assistants, which were salvaged from the Royal Chapel during its demolition in the 1820s. The Garter carpet pre-dates the Indian carpet that was made by inmates of Agra Prison for Queen Victoria which was laid in 1894.
