Photograph showing the Garter Throne Room, with the Travancore Throne and footstool (RCIN 1561.a&b) under a canopy; three crystal chandeliers, two of them hanging on either sides; of the throne; on the left by the throne is a large history painting by Benjamin West, The Institution of the Order of the Garter (RCIN 407521); and two portraits are hanging on the wall (King George III, over the fireplace, and George IV), intersected with panels of Garter wallpaper or fabric and wooden carvings by Grinling Gibbons; there is a long carpet, also decorated with Garter motifs; all the walls are lined with various chairs all covered in Garter patter material; the marble bust of Kaiser Wihelm II by Begas (which was made about 1890 and removed to stores in 1915) is in between a set of chairs, near the fireplace (RCIN 31679).
