Photograph showing the Garter Throne Room, with the Travancore Throne and footstool (RCIN 1561 a&b) under a canopy; two low-hanging crystal chandeliers hanging on either sides; a third chandelier that would have been hanging in the centre is missing; on left near the throne is a large history painting by Benjamin West, The Institution of the Order of the Garter (RCIN 407521); and two portraits hanging on the wall (King George III, over the fireplace, and George IV), intersected with panels of Garter wallpaper or fabric and carved wooden panels by Grinling Gibbons; there is a long carpet, also decorated with Garter motifs; also various chairs covered in same Garter pattern fabric, lining the left wall; the marble bust of Kaiser Wihelm II by Begas is in between a set of chairs, near the fireplace, which was made about 1890 and removed to stores in 1915 (RCIN 31679).
