-
Photograph of King George VI seated on the arm of a sofa talking to the photographer, Baron. Baron stands in profile, facing left. He holds the book Faces of Destiny (1946) by the photographer Yousuf Karsh. Queen Elizabeth, later Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, is seated on the sofa stroking a corgi. She faces the viewer and is smiling. Photograph taken in Buckingham Palace.
This is one of a series of photographs taken by Baron to mark King George VI and Queen Elizabeth's silver wedding anniversary in 1948.
Sterling Henry Nahum, known professionally as Baron, became close to the Royal Family through his personal friendship with Prince Philip, granting him commissions during the 1940s and 1950s.
Baron’s studio remained active until 1974, when it was purchased by Godfrey Argent, also an admirer of Karsh, whose influence is noticeable in some of his portraits (see RCIN 2148686).Provenance
