Photograph of St Isaac's Cathedral in St Petersburg viewed from the west. The cathedral is in the neoclassical style with a large dome and a porch with a central pediment. In the foreground to the right there is a column topped with a statue of an angel. A large neoclassical building can be seen behind the cathedral to the left. Also mounted on the same page is the fifteenth page of Montagu's diary, or daily account, of the 1874 visit to Russia by the Prince and Princess of Wales, later King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra.
This page is in an album compiled by Captain Oliver Montagu which contains photographs, newspaper cuttings, ephemera and a diary account by Montagu of the 1874 visit to Russia by the Prince and Princess of Wales. Albert Edward and Alexandra travelled to Russia to attend the wedding of Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh (and later Duke of Saxe-Coburg & Gotha) to Grand Duchess Maria Alexandrovna, the daughter of Tsar Alexander II. Captain Montagu was a member of the Prince and Princess of Wales's suite.Provenance
