Duke Maximilian Emanuel was the youngest son of Duke Maximilian Joseph in Bavaria and was born on the 7 December 1849 in Munich, Bavaria. Princess Amalie was born on the 23 October 1848 in Coburg. They married on the 20 September 1875 in Ebenthal, Lower Austria.
