Princess Marie was born on the 29 October 1875 to Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh and Marie, Duchess of Edinburgh. She married Crown Prince Ferdinand (later King Ferdinand I of Romania) on the 10 January 1893 at Sigmaringen Castle, Germany. Ferdinand and Marie were crowned as King and Queen of Romania on the 15 October 1922 at Alba Lulia in Romania.
