Princess Irene of Hesse was born at the New Palace in Darmstadt, Germany, the daughter of Louis IV, Grand Duke of Hesse. Her mother was Princess Alice of the United Kingdom and her grandmother was Queen Victoria. She married Prince Henry of Prussia in Berlin on the 24 May 1888 and they had three children together. She died on the 11 November 1953 at the Schloss Hemmelmark in Germany.
