-
Photograph of a family outside the porch of a house. Identified on verso: 'Mr Prince, Mrs Prince, & son Joe. Easter 1882'.
Joseph W Prince entered the employment of the Prince of Wales on 1 March 1865, presumably as a Groom at Sandringham, and by the King's death in 1910 he had risen to Head Groom and was retired on full pay, aged 74. Sometime after Prince's death in October 1914, Queen Alexandra, in a letter to her son, King George V, reminded him that Prince 'taught you all to ride'.
