Sir Charles Grey was primarily a British Army officer, finally promoted to General in 1865. His various posts in the Royal Household included Equerry 1837-1867, Private Secretary to The Prince Consort from 1849, Joint Keeper of the Privy Purse 1866 to1867, and Private Secretary to Queen Victoria 1867 until his death in 1870. -
