Photograph of Owen Morshead, Royal Librarian, sitting by the baroque fireplace in the Elizabethan Gallery in the Royal Library, reading a book. He is sitting in one the ebonised armchairs designed by Rundell and Bridge. This copy was given to King George VI by Morshead.
He was Librarian from 1926 until 1958 and Emeritus Librarian until his death. In 1945 he was sent to Friedrichshof with Anthony Blunt to secure the papers of Queen Victoria's daughter Empress Victoria, and also sensitive papers relating to Edward VIII. -
