Photograph of Sir Stanley de Astel Calvert Clarke, member of the Royal Household. This is a half-length portrait, seated, facing a window, looking at the viewer while reading a newspaper. He has white receding hair and a white beard and mustache, much like his former employer, King Edward VII. In earlier photographs he usually has a mustache only. Signed and dated by the sitter, December 1910.
Sir Stanley was a British officer and courtier. He was in India in the British Army and attended the 1877 Delhi Durbar. The following year he was appointed Equerry to the Prince of Wales and Private Secretary to the Alexandra, Princess of Wales. Later he helped with the arrangements for the Coronation of Edward VII and Queen Alexandra. His final position in the Royal Household was Chief Equerry and Clerk Marshal before his death in 1911.
