A photograph of Lord George Mount Stephen, standing outside holding a basket, with Brocket Hall in the background. A Scottish-born Canadian business and railway owner, Lord Mount Stephen and his second wife Giana were life-long friends of Queen Mary, dating from the days when Giana was lady-in-waiting to the Duchess of Teck (Queen Mary's mother). Giana and Queen Mary were both keen art collectors and enjoyed visiting art galleries, museums and discussing sale auctions and catalogues, often exchanging objects d'art. King George V and Queen Mary frequently visited Brocket Hall, which is near Hatfield.
