A studio photograph of William Joseph Myers (1858-99), in full dress uniform, with four medals attached to his jacket. He wears a tall shako hat with long feather plumes. Signed by the sitter.
Myers was not only a career soldier but also a collector of antiquities, particularly Egyptian art and antiquities during the 1880s. After his untimely death in South Africa during the Boer war, most of his art collection, diaries and library was donated to Eton College, where he had been educated. There are also pieces in Liverpool Museum in the Ancient Egypt collection and the Barber Institute, University of Birmingham. -
