The photograph was taken from the Russian Imperial Yacht Standart, part of which is visible in the foreground to the right. In August 1909 Nicholas II, Emperor of Russia and his family attended the annual Cowes Regatta. Their visit was hosted by King Edward VII, an uncle of the Emperor.
