Photograph of the funeral procession of Alexander III, Emperor of Russia in St Petersburg. The canopy covering the coffin is moving along the road, flanked by armed guards. The road is lined with mounted soldiers and there are crowds behind them. The buildings behind have been partially covered with black drapes. Alexander III died at the Livadia Palace in the Crimea in November 1894. His body was transported to St Petersburg by train and was buried at the Peter and Paul Fortress.
