Description

Photograph of the Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg. The photograph shows buildings on either side of a cobbled street. The New Hermitage building, to the left, has a portico supported by sculptures of men. Maintenance work is taking place on the road just in front of the portico. The Hermitage Museum opened to the public in 1852. It originally contained art and antiquities largely collected by Catherine II, Empress of Russia.
