Photograph of Alexander II, Emperor of Russia (1818-81) and Grand Duchess Maria Alexandrovna (1853-1920). Alexander II is sitting facing partly right, wearing a long military coat. Grand Duchess Maria stands beside him to the right, her right arm resting on the back of her father's chair and her left raised to her chest. There are a number of items of furniture around them and a patterned rug on the floor. Alexander II was Emperor of Russia from 1855 until his assassination in 1881. Grand Duchess Maria Alexandrovna was his only surviving daughter. She married Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh, the fourth child of Queen Victoria.
