She is wearing Imperial Court dress consisting of a heavily embroidered dress, a sash and a diamond necklace and tiarra. She is also wearing the insignia of the Order of St Catherine. The photograph is signed 'Maria'. Maria Feodorovna, born Princess Dagmar of Denmark, was the consort of Alexander III, Emperor of Russia. She was known as Dowager Empress during the reign of her son Nicholas II.
