Grand Duke George Alexandrovich was the second surviving son of Alexander III, Emperor of Russia. He died as a young man after a period of ill health. This photograph was taken during a summer holiday at the Fredensborg Palace in Denmark, where annual family gatherings were hosted by his maternal grandfather King Christian IX.
