Photograph of Tsesarevich Nicholas (1868-1918), later Nicholas II, and Grand Duke George Alexandrovich (1871-99). Tsesarevich Nicholas is standing in a window, resting his arms on a wrought iron trellis. Grand Duke George is sitting on a rock in front of the window to the left, holding a cap. Both boys are wearing sailor suits. Nicholas II and Grand Duke George Alexandrovich were the eldest surviving sons of Alexander III, Emperor of Russia. This photograph was taken during a summer holiday at the Fredensborg Palace in Denmark, where annual family gatherings were hosted by their maternal grandfather King Christian IX.
