Tsesarevich Alexander is sitting to the right, wearing military uniform and resting his hands on a long sword. Tsesarevna Maria Feodorovna is standing behind a fake wall with a trellis, resting her right arm on the trellis. There are plants on the trellis and on the ground, some drawn onto the photograph in ink. Alexander III was Emperor of Russia from 1881 until 1894. His consort, Maria Feodorovna, was born Princess Dagmar of Denmark. Among their children was Nicholas II, the last monarch of Russia.
