Albumen print on card | 10.1 x 6.3 cm (whole object) | RCIN 2926292

A carte-de-visite group portrait of the family of Prince Christian of Denmark, later Christian IX of Denmark (1818-1906) (centre, seated), Prince Wilhelm, later King George I of Greece (1845-1913), Princess Dagmar, later Empress Marie Feodorovna of Russia (1847-1928) (left) and Princess Alexandra, later Queen Alexandra of England (1844-1925) (right), and a large dog on the floral carpet. King Christian IX was sometimes known as the 'father-in-law of Europe', because four of his six children married into the British, Greek and Russian royal families.
This is probably a copy of the original photograph (RCIN 2907862) which has a hand-written inscription, listing the sitters' names at the bottom of the photograph, rather than on the mount itself. This copy is dated 1859 on the album by Alexandra.Provenance
Album compiled by Queen Alexandra when Princess of Wales
