This copy of the Christmas Gift book is embellished with a cover made of carved wood (RCIN 2924120) on the front and a leather back, probably by the Sandringham Carving or Technical School. The book is a compilation of 136 reproductions (RCIN 2923983-2924120) over 48 pages, of Queen Alexandra's photographs of members of the royal family of England and Denmark, friends, ships and royal visits; some are printed as facsimiles stuck onto the page in the manner of a real photograph album, some are printed illustrations.
Conceived and compiled by Queen Alexandra and Thomas Hall Caine (1853-1931) with his son Ralph Hall Caine (who was a publisher), it was published by the Daily Telegraph in 1908, to raise funds for charity. The frontispiece has a reproduction of a photograph of Queen Alexandra by W & D Downey. The workmanship on the cover is typical of that produced at the Sandringham Carving or Technical School. -
