A page of twelve photographs and a French newspaper article of the arrival of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra, and party, at Algiers, in April 1905. The photograph feature views of the landing stage and promenade at Algiers, the boat in which the royal party were transported from the royal yacht, views of the ships illuminated at night, and one of the main buildings (mosque?) illuminated at night.
Queen Alexandra wrote about Algiers: 'We land the next day in fine weather, visit the mosque & old Turkish [sic] part of town. Also an exhibition of native work. An alarming incident might have taken place - as the horses ran away the carriage in which Dr Laking and the Consul's wife were...' [incomplete text may be obscured by photograph].
From a blue leather bound album stamped with 'Vol.1 Mediterranean Cruise, 1905' with Queen Alexandra's cypher on top left corner of the album. -
